Jaguars News · Robert Youngblood named NFHS Mideast Section Boys & Girls Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year


Congratulations, Coach Robert Youngblood!

The Maryland State Coaches Association (MSCA) along with the Maryland State Athletic Directors Association (MSADA) would like to congratulate Robert Youngblood, of Northwest High School, in Montgomery County, for being named the 2018-2019 the National Federation of High School Sports (NFHS) Mideast Section Boys and Girls Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year for 2018-2019 season. Coach Youngblood was selected for this award out of 8 states which include; Delaware, District of Columbia, Kentucky, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Coach Youngblood has been the head coach of the Northwest Jaguars Boys and Girls Outdoor Track and Field team since 2012. In those 7 years his teams’ have accomplished the following; 7 Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA) state championships, 12 MPSSAA regional championships (6 by the boys and 6 by the girls, 7 Montgomery County Boys championships and 6 Montgomery County Girls championships. Coach Youngblood, served as head coach at Damascus High School prior to Northwest where his teams won; 3 MPSSAA state championships, 5 MPSSAA regional championships and 2 Montgomery County championships.

In addition to this award, Coach Youngblood has received the following accolades:

  • 2013 Northwest High School Boys Indoor Track Coach of the Year
  • 2013 Northwest High School Boys Track and Field Coach of the Year
  • 2015 Northwest High School Boys Indoor Track Coach of the Year
  • 2015 Northwest High School Boys Track and Field Coach of the Year
  • 2016 Northwest High School Boys Indoor Track Coach of the Year
  • 2017 Northwest High School Boys Track and Field Coach of the Year
  • 2018 USATF Boys Track and Field Coach of the Year
  • 2018 All-Met Boys Track and Field Coach of the Year
  • 2019 Boys Track and Field Coach of the Decade

Along with coaching Outdoor Track and Field, Coach Youngblood also coaches; Football, Girls’ Basketball and Boys and Girls Indoor Track. Coach Youngblood has been an educator and coach in Montgomery County Public Schools for 15 years. The impact that Coach Youngblood as had on his student-athletes goes beyond the 4 years they have him has a coach in High School. Coach Youngblood is dedicated to making his student-athletes better on and off their playing surfaces and will go above and beyond to help and support them anyway he can.
